A quick guide to the Kiwanis “family tree” for the Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg, Virginia — with official links for members.
The Kiwanis Structure (Big → Small)
Kiwanis is organized in a simple nested structure. Our club is a local club that belongs to a division, which is grouped into a region within a district, all under Kiwanis International.
- Kiwanis International (global organization)
- Capital District (district that includes Virginia)
- Southwest Region (regional grouping within the Capital District)
- Division 16 (our division within the Southwest Region)
- Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg (K03324) (our local club)
Note: Regions and divisions don’t always maintain separate standalone websites. Often, the best “official” pages for region/division info are on the Capital District site (plus the District’s history pages).

What Each Level Actually Does
Kiwanis International
Sets the global mission, standards, brand, and core resources. Provides international programs, service leadership programs, and club support.
Capital District
Coordinates training, conventions, awards, leadership development, and district-wide initiatives for clubs across the district (including Virginia).
Southwest Region & Division 16
These are “closer-to-the-ground” organizing layers: division leadership (often a Lieutenant Governor) helps clubs collaborate, share best practices, and connect with district initiatives. Region/division pages are often hosted within district resources rather than separate websites.
Our Club
This is where the magic happens: meetings, projects, fundraising, hands-on service, local partnerships — and building a community of people who like doing good together.

Service Leadership Programs We Support
Kiwanis also sponsors and supports a family of Service Leadership Programs (SLP) that help students build leadership through service. Two important programs connected to our area include the college-level club at Virginia Tech and the high school club at Christiansburg High School.
Circle K International (College)
Circle K International (CKI) is Kiwanis’ collegiate service organization. At Virginia Tech, Circle K brings students together around service, leadership, and fellowship in Blacksburg.

Key Club (High School)
Key Club is Kiwanis’ high school service organization — student-led and community-focused. The Christiansburg High School Key Club has a long connection to our Kiwanis club, including historical sponsorship and ongoing support.
- CHS Key Club (Facebook page): https://www.facebook.com/103402852701770/
- Kiwanis history reference (CHS Key Club chartered in 1960): https://history.capitaldistrictkiwanis.org/clubs/christiansburg50th.html
- Our club service page (mentions CHS Key Club support): https://www.christiansburgkiwanis.com/services.html
Why this matters: Supporting SLP clubs is one of the best “multiplier effects” in Kiwanis — we’re not only serving today, we’re helping develop the service leaders who will be running projects (and clubs!) tomorrow.
Tip for members: If you’re looking for division/region contacts, training dates, conventions, or district documents, the Capital District site is usually the most current “source of truth.” The district history pages are great for background and club lineage.
