At the Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg, our mission is simple: to serve the children of our community. Kiwanis Baseball Park

Founded in 1963 to provide vital youth athletics, Kiwanis Baseball Park began as a member-built facility that birthed the local sandlot, Little League, and softball programs. Today, it remains a vibrant community hub and a testament to volunteerism, hosting everything from modern tournaments to annual town traditions.
Kiwanis Nature Park
The Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg is developing a five-acre nature park along Walnut Branch next to the Kiwanis ballfields. The project includes pollinator gardens, native plant restoration, and stormwater improvements that protect the stream while creating a place for the community to learn about nature and enjoy the outdoors.
Holiday Spirit: The Children’s Christmas Party
Every December, we host a special Christmas celebration for over 60 local children and their families. This isn’t just a dinner; it’s a community effort to ensure no child goes without.
- Personal Connection: Each Kiwanis member personally sponsors a child, shopping for and funding their specific clothing needs.
- Wishes Fulfilled: Using proceeds from our annual fundraisers, the Club purchases toys from each child’s “wish list.”
- The Celebration: Families join us for a holiday dinner and Christmas carols, culminating in a visit from Santa, who presents each child with their wrapped gifts.
Food Security: The Head Start Backpack Program
No child should go hungry when school is out. While many children receive free meals during the school week, weekends can be a time of uncertainty.
- The Mission: Every Friday during the school year, we provide backpacks filled with nutritious food for children in the Head Start program to take home.
- We are grateful to Feeding America, an organization that greatly reduces the cost of our food purchases, enabling them to have a much greater impact.
Health & School Support: Clothing, Supplies, and Recreation
A child’s confidence and ability to learn are deeply tied to having the right tools and opportunities. We work closely with committees at all seven Christiansburg schools to identify students in need.
- Clothe a Child: We provide schools with debit cards to purchase climate-appropriate and sturdy clothing for students, protecting them from the elements and the social anxiety of insufficient attire.
- School Supplies: We ensure that financial barriers don’t stop a student from succeeding by providing the funds necessary for required classroom supplies throughout the year.
- Aquatic Center Memberships: We believe in the power of recreation and physical health. Our club proudly funds memberships at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center for underprivileged youth, ensuring that all children in our town have access to world-class swimming and fitness facilities, regardless of their family’s financial situation.
Investing in the Future: Kiwanis Scholarships
We believe in rewarding the hard work and resilience of our local students. Each year, the Club’s Scholarship Committee selects up to three deserving Christiansburg High School seniors to receive academic scholarships, helping them take the next step in their educational journey.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
The Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg proudly provides annual financial support for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, an internationally recognized early-literacy initiative that helps young children build a lifelong love of reading.
Through this program, children from birth to age five who are enrolled in participating communities receive a high-quality, age-appropriate book mailed directly to their home every month at no cost to their families. The books are carefully selected by educators and literacy experts to help children develop language skills, imagination, and a strong foundation for future learning.
By supporting the Imagination Library, our club helps ensure that local children grow up with books of their own and the opportunity to experience the joy and power of reading from their earliest years.
Local Partnerships & Recurring Support
Ongoing Commitment to the New River Valley
Beyond our primary service projects, the Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg maintains an annual budget dedicated to supporting recurring community programs and responding to emerging needs. We are proud to partner with organizations that share our mission of improving the lives of local residents and youth.
Our recurring annual support includes:
- Special Needs Programming: Providing essential funding for special needs initiatives at the Christiansburg Recreation and Aquatic Centers.
- Youth Leadership: Sponsoring the Christiansburg High School Key Club, helping the next generation develop a passion for service.
- Essential Support: Partnering with the IDA of New River Valley and Montgomery Social Services to assist families in need.
- Community Health & Safety: Supporting organizations like Sleep in Heavenly Peace, ensuring no child in our town has to sleep on the floor, and the Agency on Aging.
In addition to these budgeted programs, our Club reviews and approves discretionary requests throughout the year, allowing us to remain agile and responsive to the needs of Christiansburg.
