Each year, the Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg awards scholarships of $2,000 to up to three graduating students at Christiansburg High School to help them pursue further education and training. Our goal is simple: invest in the next chapter of local students who are working hard, serving others, and planning boldly.
Application Deadline: May 1
Interested in applying? Please complete our confidential scholarship application to be considered. The Scholarship Committee reviews all submissions and selects recipients based on the criteria below.
How Recipients Are Selected
Applicants are evaluated by the Kiwanis Scholarship Committee using a balanced, student-centered review. We consider the full picture—achievement, effort, service, and future plans.
- Academic effort and progress (course rigor, improvement over time, and commitment to learning).
- Service and leadership (volunteering, school/community involvement, Key Club participation, and leadership roles).
- Character and reliability (recommendations, integrity, perseverance, and how the student shows up for others).
- Financial need and barriers overcome (as shared in the application, with sensitivity and confidentiality).
- Clarity of goals (a realistic plan for college, trade school, certification, or other postsecondary pathway).
- Quality of the personal statement (thoughtfulness, authenticity, and how the student connects past experiences to future aspirations).
An Inspiring Tradition
Scholarship recipients are invited (not required) to join us at a Thursday dinner meeting to share their future plans. Hearing students describe where they’re headed—and what they hope to contribute to the world—is consistently one of the most inspiring events of our year.
Note: Scholarship amounts, deadlines, and any additional requirements are posted on the application page each year.
