Call to Order
President Perry called the meeting to order. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a blessing led by Charlton.
Approval of Previous Minutes
The minutes of the August 27, 2026, meeting were submitted for approval.
- Motion: Charlton
- Second: G. Morris
- The motion passed unanimously.
- Program- President Perry introduced Sarah Burris and Austin Ardron from MCPS. They both presented their backgrounds. They support approximately 100 kids (depending on timing) from across the entire county at Montgomery Central and provide Alternate Education. Alternate School is for kids that don’t really fit in due to attitudes, abilities, failing grades and other challenges. The focus is on overall wellness and health, with an emphasis on moving. Each child is issued a Fit Bit which the kids really appreciate. This program helps the kids develop and feel like they belong. Prizes are awarded for their efforts which really excites the kids. They also emphasize teaching life skills which many of the kids are grossly lacking in. Alternate School funding is only through donations. Good Q&A followed. Wade mentioned our club supports the program through donations of Walmart Gift Cards to use for supplies, snacks etc.
- Committee Reports and Floor Comments
- Mark Chapman-Perry gave update that Chapman is getting much better, he can eat and work.
- KWTF-Wade is circulating a sign-up sheet to help the day of the event. Most help is needed early morning and late afternoon. PLEASE SIGN UP AND HELP. Additionally, Wade asks that everyone take some posters and place them around the area.
- Football Programs-Simmons announced the first game is tomorrow night.
- Stage Setup– Henderson appreciates all the help with the practice last week which went very well. Cloggers will be performing and there is concern with how to protect the stage surface. Discussion followed.
- Rockin Uptown-Board said it is 5-9 pm on Saturday 9/12. We need to be there by 4 pm and set up ready to go at the Uptown Mall in the back.
- Boy Scouts Funding-will be discussed at a board meeting during Budget preparation.
- Annual Budget-Cox asked all committee chairs to submit a budget for next year, so he doesn’t have to guess at it. We should review every line item we budget for and determine if we really want to continue supporting that.
- Board Reports– Discussion on why results of board meetings aren’t presented to the club. It was suggested the board meet last meeting of the month and brief the membership during the first meeting of the following month. Discussion followed.
- Silent Auction and Raffle-A. Graham will be taking pictures of the items and posting them on social media. Please Like/Comment/Share.
- Last Week’s Low Country Boil-Big thanks to the crew that prepared the feast.
- Speakers and Events (Please share suggested guest speakers with Bruce Board for scheduling.)

BOARD MEETING
Attendees (Bold=attended-need 7 minimum): Board, Cox, Davidson, Dobbins, Keenan, Lauer, Miles, Painter, Parrish, Perry, Simmons, Thompson
- President Perry presented a membership application from Peter Hayes seeking discussion and a motion to approve.
- Motion: Simmons
- Second: Parrish
The motion passed unanimously.
- Annual Induction of new club leadership…President Perry will talk to LtG Keenan to schedule it.
- Awards Certificates-Have been signed and need to be presented by 9/30
- Cox presented the August 2026 financials. There may be some changes as additional credit card charges come in.
- Expertly reviewed all appropriate line items…all look good.
- Discussed dropping programs we no longer feel appropriate and adding programs that deal directly with kids. May drop Agency on Aging, may increase Sleep in Heavenly Peace to $5K next year and drop the $3K this year. Will also need to participate in a build. Additional items will be reviewed.
- Cox recommends we present the financials to the membership at least on a quarterly basis
- Point of discussion-Wade mentioned how not too many years ago, we used to conclude our regular meeting by ringing the bell. The president would then ring the bell again and open the board meeting. That way, all board work and discussions were open to the entire membership (but they could not vote).
- Perry made a motion to approve the report, Painter seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm with no further discussion.
