The Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg believes that every child deserves to feel the joy of Christmas. On December 15, 2022, that belief became action as 50 local children received clothing, toys, and food through our Annual Children’s Christmas Event.
The process begins weeks before the holiday. Local schools provide the names of children in need, along with clothing sizes and gift requests. Each Kiwanis member selects a child and personally shops for clothing items such as coats, sweaters, shoes, boots, socks, and other essentials. On average, members spend more than $125 per child on clothing.
The Club then provides toys and food using funds raised throughout the year. An early morning Walmart shopping trip kicks off the toy effort, followed by wrapping assistance from the Early Childhood Education Class at Christiansburg High School. B & B Storage generously donates space to store items until distribution day.
Families participate in a drive-through pickup at the Christiansburg Recreation Center. For those unable to attend, Kiwanis members deliver gifts directly to the home.
This year, more than $11,000 was invested in supporting local children.
We are deeply grateful to Walmart and its employees, Bryan Rice and B & B Storage, the Early Childhood Education Class at CHS, the Christiansburg Recreation Center, and every Kiwanis member who helped make this event possible.
Special thanks to Dennis Hunter for chairing this year’s project.
Service like this is what Kiwanis is all about: neighbors helping neighbors and making sure every child feels supported.
