Building the Future of Christiansburg: A Conversation with Town Manager Dr. Kim Eagle

Mayor Barber welcomed Dr. Kim Eagle, Christiansburg’s Town Manager, as the club’s guest presenter. Dr. Eagle officially began her role on January 2, 2026, and, as Mayor Barber noted, she has already moved quickly to engage with the work and the community.

During her presentation, Dr. Eagle reflected on a leadership philosophy grounded in focus and perspective: control what you can control, and do not worry about the rest. She brings extensive experience to Christiansburg, including 25 years with the City of Charlotte and service in a variety of other local government roles.

Dr. Eagle spoke of public service not simply as a profession, but as a calling. She shared that she finds deep meaning in helping citizens and in the ability of local government to make a tangible difference in community life. Throughout her remarks, she emphasized that leadership is fundamentally about the people one serves. A guiding question in her work, she said, is: How do I show up for all I serve?

She described her leadership style as one rooted in authenticity, accessibility, and collaboration. She strives to be genuine and approachable to both citizens and staff. Rather than speaking first, she prefers to listen carefully; rather than making decisions in isolation, she seeks to mediate and build understanding; and rather than command, she aims to persuade and lead through shared purpose.

Looking ahead, Dr. Eagle outlined several priorities for Christiansburg’s future, including developing a strategic plan with the Town Council, creating a five-year capital improvement plan, and planning proactively for the town’s continued growth and success.

Her presentation prompted an engaging and thoughtful question-and-answer session, giving members an opportunity to learn more about her vision for Christiansburg and her commitment to public service.

We appreciate Dr. Eagle for sharing her time, experience, and vision with our club, and we thank Mayor Barber for introducing such an informative and timely presentation.
