Quick Note: The Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg has a longstanding practice of using charitable gifts to support community service and youth-focused programs, while administrative costs of Club operations are primarily covered through member dues. This helps ensure that 100% of donated funds are directed toward local impact.
1. Organizational Status
The Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations made to the Club may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Donors should consult their tax advisor regarding the deductibility of any contribution.
2. Purpose of Donations
Donations support the Club’s charitable mission and service activities, with a strong emphasis on programs benefiting children and families in Christiansburg, Montgomery County, and the surrounding community.

- Educational assistance and scholarships

- Partnerships with local nonprofit and service organizations
- Programs such as the Head Start Backpack Program and the Children’s Christmas Party

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, donations are treated as unrestricted gifts and may be used where the need is greatest in furtherance of the Club’s charitable mission.
3. Types of Donations Accepted
The Club gratefully accepts a variety of contributions, including:

- Corporate or organizational gifts

- Endowment gifts

4. Methods of Giving

Any processing fees charged by third-party payment providers may be deducted during transaction processing unless otherwise stated.
5. Donor Recognition
The Club recognizes donors according to annual giving levels as described on the Donor Recognition page of the website. Unless a donor requests otherwise, donors may be acknowledged publicly on the Club’s website or in Club publications according to their level of annual support.
Donors may request:
- Listing under a preferred individual name
- Listing as a household, family, or organization
- Anonymous recognition
Requests regarding recognition preferences may be submitted at any time by contacting the Club.
6. Anonymous Donations
Donors who wish to remain anonymous will be fully respected. Anonymous donors may still receive written acknowledgment for tax purposes upon request.
7. Recurring Donations
Recurring donations continue until the donor requests cancellation, the donor’s payment method expires or fails, or the Club discontinues the recurring giving program.
Donors may modify or cancel recurring donations at any time by contacting the Club or by following the instructions provided during the original transaction process.
8. Restricted Gifts
The Club welcomes donor input regarding how contributions may be used. However, any donor restriction must be agreed to in advance and must remain consistent with the Club’s charitable mission and legal obligations.
If a restricted purpose becomes impractical, impossible, or no longer feasible, the Club reserves the right to redirect the donation to a closely related charitable purpose that is consistent with donor intent.
9. Endowment Gifts
The Club welcomes gifts intended to strengthen its long-term charitable capacity through endowment support. Endowment gifts may be made as current contributions, memorial gifts, planned gifts, or bequests, subject to the Club’s acceptance and any applicable gift terms.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, endowment gifts will be managed in a manner intended to preserve and grow charitable resources over time, with distributions used to support the Club’s mission and community service priorities. Donors who wish to discuss endowment intent, naming opportunities, or long-term gift structure should contact the Club before making the contribution.
Endowment Giving: Donors considering a legacy or endowment gift are encouraged to contact the Club in advance so the gift can be documented clearly and aligned with the Club’s long-term charitable goals.
10. Refund Policy
Donations are generally considered final and non-refundable. Refund requests resulting from processing errors, duplicate transactions, or unauthorized charges will be reviewed promptly and handled in good faith. Donors should contact the Club as soon as possible if an issue occurs.
11. Use of Funds
Consistent with longstanding Club practice, donations designated for service activities are used to support community programs and charitable initiatives. Administrative costs of the Club are covered primarily through member dues, helping ensure that charitable contributions are directed toward community impact.
12. Privacy of Donor Information
The Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg respects donor privacy. Donor information is used only for processing contributions, maintaining donor records, issuing acknowledgments and receipts, recognition unless anonymity is requested, and communicating with donors about Club activities.
Donor information is not sold or shared with third parties except as required for payment processing, legal compliance, or other lawful purposes.
13. Tax Receipts and Acknowledgments
Written acknowledgment of donations will be provided in accordance with IRS requirements for charitable contributions. Donors are responsible for retaining receipts and related documentation for their tax records.
14. In-Kind Contributions
Non-cash contributions may be accepted when they support Club programs, events, or charitable operations. The Club does not assign monetary value to in-kind gifts for tax purposes. Donors are responsible for determining and documenting the value of such contributions.
15. Changes to These Terms
The Club reserves the right to update these Donation Terms and Conditions at any time. The most current version will be posted on the Club’s website.
