Call to Order

President Perry called the meeting to order. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a blessing led by Charlton.

Approval of Previous Minutes

The minutes of the July 30, 2026, meeting were submitted for approval.

  • Motion: Charlton             Second: G. Morris
  • The motion passed unanimously.
  • Program: Scouts BSA Troop145 – Troop Spokesperson’s Henry & Lisa Bass
  • Troop 145 consists of Boy Scouts from the ages of 11-18 and meets on Monday, and Cubs Scouts from the ages of 5-11. The troop has produced 43 Eagle Scouts since 2005, each with service projects. Troop 145 has been affiliated with VFW Post 5311 since 2021. The Post is also affiliated with Girl Scout Troop145 and Cub Scout Pack 145.
    • The Cubs Scouts meet every 2nd and 4th Sundays and earn Adventure Loops (for belts/backpacks), and Adventure Pins for participating in activities and outings. Troop 145 participates in the flag drop off for proper disposal. There are three drop sites located at the Chamber of Commerce, the VFW Post, and St. Paul’s UMC.
    • One of the troop’s un-met needs is a problem with participation dropping off. Kiwanis can help by spreading the word which could occur within our schools and sports programs.
    • Another un-met need for Troop 145 is for additional monies which could fund uniforms and scout activities. The cost for summer camp per trooper is $435.
    • Troop 145 has one Eagle Scout project in progress.
    • Contact information will be sent to Kiwanis.
    • Henry and Lisa also teach robotics to kids focusing on STEM skills.
  • Committee Reports and Floor Comments
  • New Stage: Henderson recommended more stage setup practice sessions prior to KWTF. President Perry established 8/22/26 at 8AM as a tentative practice session with future session to be determined. Seven members indicated they would participate.
  • Big Walker Mountain: On Monday, August 3rd, 12 members attended the inter-club meeting at Big Walker Mountain sponsored by the Wythe Co. club. President Perry reports it was an enjoyable fellowship with good food, live music, and beautiful location. He suggested that future inter-clubs at other chapters would be appropriate.
  • KWTF: Wade updates that all is doing well. He also states, due to a shortage of non-club volunteers we have had in the past, we will need to involve as many Kiwanis members as possible to make up the difference.
  • MMAH: Wade announced Heritage Day on 8/15 is just around the corner and requests club volunteers to help at 8:30AM in the morning for setup and again at 5:00PM for take down.
  • Park: Simmons said the plan is coming together to stabilize the creek. We are awaiting instructions. Keesee indicates he continues coordinating with the planning commission.
  • Head Start: Simmons reports Head Start’s first day is 8/24 and we will bag backpack goods on 8/27. Look for an email.
