Committees:
Trex Bags for Benches- Kennan informed the club that Trex has discontinued the program as we know it. The program today requires that you have 300lbs of bags each quarter which puts you into a pool of candidates in which a random drawing is performed with the winner receiving a prize such as a gas grill or other item. There are approximately 4,500 participants in the program. Bill will continue to investigate other programs to see if we have any other options, but for now the program will cease.
Lt. Governor Kennan has been visiting other clubs in the Division and noted that all are having challenges with membership. He noted that the Abingdon club is down to 26 members and at one time had in excess of 100.
Wilderness Trail Festival – Ernie reported that the committee will be having a meeting next Thursday beginning at 3:30 at Burke & Herbert Bank. He also reported that we are having a record year with 7 new sponsorships and 4 that have returned.
Finance- Cox reported a CD coming due at Freedom First will be moved to Atlantic Union Bank with a more favorable rate.
Scholarship- Carlton reported that we have 11 applications this year and the awards ceremony will occur on the 22nd,
Town Events- Simmons reported that we have the Rockin’ Uptown Mall Event this Saturday and a crew will meet at Kroger around 2:00 to begin preparation for this event. Also a map showing the footprint was projected on the screen to show everyone the setup.
Backpack Program – Simmons reported that we only have two weeks remaining in the schedule of packing.
